Epiphyte

University
of Hawaii, School of Architecture
We are a
group of students at University
of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Architecture. As a part of
comprehensive design studio we are currently working on addition
to a building. This building addition will be modeled on the
biological concept of epiphyte, relying upon the host structure,
but redefining the existing building in a positive manner so as to
facilitate the expanded life of the addition. This Building
addition will not be primarily reliant on the existing
infrastructure, but will obtain its energy and essential utilities
from the atmosphere. It will also be required to provide a
positive term to its host, as a generator of income, joyful
experience, energy, and environmental remediation.
